Birdwatching Guide
Birdwatching runs on a simple loop -- spot a bird, scan it into an Info Card, and turn those cards in for rewards -- but the star rating on each card, and the per-bird mastery tiers behind it, take a bit more care to get right. This guide covers how the scanner works, what pushes a card's rating up, and where to submit your results.
Getting Started
Birdwatching unlocks once your D.G. Member level is high enough -- from there, talk to Bailey J in Central Square and confirm the hobby with a Hobby Expansion Ticket. She hands you your first scanner on the spot, along with a small shop of her own -- binoculars, bird food, and the Camouflage Bush covered below.
More scanner actions open up as you level the hobby further, on top of these first two.
Getting a Good Info Card
Every card you take is rated 1-5★, and that rating comes entirely from how you take it -- not the bird species itself.
A bird framed up close and centered in the scanner scores higher than a rushed, off-angle shot.
A card taken the instant you spot a bird is usually only worth the minimum star. Waiting for it to react -- chirp, forage, or otherwise respond to you -- pushes the rating up.
Push the zoom in from a distance instead of walking up -- birds spook and fly off if you crowd them.
A card taken while the bird is out of focus or fully off-frame won't count -- back off and re-frame before trying again.
Submitting Info Cards
Turning cards in is a separate step from taking them, and it's gated behind a small hobby level of its own -- the option to submit opens up once your Birdwatching level reaches 2. Per-Bird Mastery
Separately from the daily submission cap, every bird tracks its own mastery progress across four tiers -- beginner, apprentice, expert, and master -- as you keep turning in cards of that same species. Higher tiers need more cards logged, and HatoPedia's own database is still filling in the earlier thresholds bird by bird as they're confirmed.

Birdwatching Events
Limited-time Birdwatching Events layer extra activity on top of the normal loop -- keep an eye out for a Bird Wave, a burst of birds appearing in quick succession, and a rarer hidden phase on top of that. Both are worth chasing while they're up, since community-tracked achievements below are built entirely around them.
